Hume Libraries have joined forces with other libraries around Victoria to share our collections, so that you can now search and place holds on the collections of other library services directly through our online catalogue and mobile app.

If an item is available at another library service, after you place a hold, it will take about two weeks to make its way through the system to be available for pickup at your local branch, kiosk or collection van stop

When searching our catalogue, you will now see items that belong to our shared network library services, which you can place holds on like any other of our collection items.

Please note that to keep the system sustainable there are some restrictions on which items are available in the shared network – these include new items for a period of six months, picture books and board books.

The library services we now share our collections with are:

  • Central Highlands Libraries
  • City of Yarra Libraries
  • Hobsons Bay Libraries
  • Mildura Rural City Council Libraries
  • Mitchell Shire Library Service
  • Wimmera Regional Library Corporation
  • Gannawarra Library Service
  • Hindmarsh Shire Library

Across these library collections there are almost 1 million items!

If the book you're looking for still isn’t available, you can always submit a purchase request using our online form.

One Card network

As part of this change, we have also joined the Libraries Victoria One Card Membership,. This means you can use your Hume Libraries membership card to borrow books at any participating library across Victoria! To access all offerings from other library services, including online collections, you may still need to register for a membership card with each library service.

You are always the priority!

The new system has been configured in such a way that items owned by Hume Libraries will always prioritise holds placed by Hume Libraries members before they are sent to one of our network partner libraries.

FAQs

Why can I no longer see my place in the queue?

The new system configuration means that we aren’t able to display an accurate place in queue for any title hold you have in your account either online or via the mobile app. We apologise for this inconvenience.

How long will it take for my reservation to arrive from another library service?

If the item is available and on the shelf at the other library service, it will take about two weeks to make it’s way through the system to the reservations shelf at your local branch. However, if the item is on loan, then it may take a little longer.
