The Library of Things is a collection of useful, interesting and fun objects including gadgets, tools, kits, electronics, and more — all available to check out for free with a library card. 

Tools to measure how energy efficient your home is; to enhance your productivity; to digitise your old films, slides, and negatives. Fun games to take home and play with your kids. And even a karaoke machine for your next party!

All these and much more, are available to borrow now, or will be available in the months ahead. Browse through our current full Library of Things collection.

 

How to get started 

To borrow from the Library of Things, you’ll need to: 

  • Speak with a library staff member to complete a short briefing 

  • Be at least 18 years old 

You must complete the form and briefing before being able to borrow or place a request on Library of Things items. 

 

Terms and Conditions 

As valuable and delicate items, Library of Things items that require an extra level of care. 

  • Item Checkout: If you are borrowing a Library of Things item, you agree to fill out the check-out form (if the item has one) with a staff member, confirming that all pieces are present and correct. You agree that damage or loss caused to the item, or to any of its parts, while loaned to your account will be charged at the replacement cost for the whole item. If a part or parts are lost and it is possible to replace the individual part, you will be charged the individual cost for the part.

  • Loan Period: The loan period for Library of Things items is one week with no renewals.

  • Returns: Library of Things items must be returned to a staff member during opening hours and never placed in the returns chute.
